U.D.O. comments on welcoming Sven into the fold: "His drumming has simply convinced us the most. His style of playing is fresh and really grooves heavily. It simply is exactly what we need for U.D.O. We also know that Sven fits perfectly into the band family. He has been working as a drum tech for us for more than four years and we know from several world tours that everyone likes him and gets along with him perfectly." Sven is no stranger to the world of touring as he has been around the band since he was young. He comments on becoming a permanent member of the band: "It is a very special feeling to be a part of my father's band. I somehow have always been around with the band since I can remember. But I have never dreamed of being a real band member one day." | Blog author: Alex Stojanovic Following the sudden departure of drummer Francesco Jovino in December, U.D.O. have announced that their new drummer will be none other than Udo Dirkschneider's 21-year-old son Sven Dirkschneider. This is awesome to hear, as I've always loved the element of father and son in the same band, as there aren't many, but we know about Eddie and Wolfgang Van Halen, as well as Steve "Zetro" Souza with his two sons Cody and Nick in Hatriot. Currently, Sven is filling in for Saxon drummer Nigel Glockler on the band's mini run of the UK, due to Nigel recovering from a successful surgery for a brain aneurysm, but Nigel is expected to be back to 100% before Saxon hits the studio to record their next album for a late 2015 release. |
