Robb Flynn of Machine Head took to Facebook live today to break some very unexpected and pretty devastating news. In the video, he reveals that on Wednesday and yesterday, both Phil Demmel and Dave McClain have announced their departures from the band. However, the two will still be part of the upcoming North American tour dates. Yeah, it's very surprising. Dave has been with the band since The More Things Change... and Phil has been with the band since Through The Ashes Of Empires. In the video, Robb doesn't reveal as to why Phil and Dave have left, except for saying that they've grown apart both musically and as people. Jared MacEachern's status with the band remains unknown, although Robb did say that Jared was going to stick around. We'll see what happens. As a result, the upcoming tour will serve as a farewell tour for Phil and Dave. At this point, Robb said that the future of Machine Head remains uncertain, but this isn't the end of the band. Who will be able to fill the big shoes that Phil and Dave will leave behind? We'll just have to wait and see. In the meantime, get out to one of the upcoming shows and see this lineup while you still can. The album was once again produced by the band's longtime producer Soren Andersen, who produced the band's last four albums from When Death Comes to Penalty By Perception. Soren comments on the album: "Pure and raw! Some of the material of this album was originally written in the early 80's, and that inspired us to go old school this time. Not too many layers, just classic Artillery thrash metal...and Bastholm is better than ever on this one. This is a no-filler album, created together with the band. I'm really proud of the final result and I hope everyone will enjoy it as much as I do!"
