Just last month, we were hit with the unfortunate news of the passing of Warrel Dane.  This questioned the future of Sanctuary as they were preparing to hit the road with Iced Earth and Kill Ritual for a huge North American tour in February and March.  We were all questioning whether Sanctuary will drop from the tour or have a guest vocalist.

Today, the band has confirmed that they will have Joseph Michael from Witherfall stand in as guest vocalist for the upcoming tour and they will tribute the upcoming shows as a farewell to Warrel.

Sanctuary guitarist Lenny Rutledge comments:  “Sanctuary has decided to continue on with the Iced Earth tour to pay tribute to our brother Warrel Dane.  We have enlisted the help of our friend Joseph Michael from Witherfall.  The set will consist of many old and some newer songs performed with the utmost respect and quality to honor our friend.  Please join us in this farewell as we celebrate Warrel's musical legacy with Sanctuary.  We look forward to sharing this tribute with all of you.”

Whether Sanctuary will disband after these shows or continue on remains to be seen.  If you ask me, it wouldn't surprise me if they decided to stop because Warrel is irreplaceable.  Such a unique voice and songwriter.  Be sure to get out to one of these shows because this might be your last chance to see Sanctuary live.
