About the band:
Stepping it up from Inner-city Toronto, Canada by way of the province of Ontario’s pastoral Lakeland frontier of Peterborough, Mokomokai is a hard-rockin foursome whose thundering stage assault has set the Canadian rock and metal tour circuit alight since first forming in 2011. Critics and fans alike have been astounded by Mokomokai’s white-hot brand of rock and roll, which takes influence from the likes of Motorhead and Judas Priest, and pushes it fast and further into incendiary territory.
To date, single releases like their anthemic debut, ‘Poison Whiptail’, the soaring banshee wail of ‘Heavy Metal Sky’, and a crushing studio cover of Deep Purples 1970 In Rock burner ‘Bloodsucker’ have attracted a fiercely loyal following both at home in the band’s native Canada and abroad.
The protean power of Mokomokai’s explosive lineup starts with originals John Ellis on high-octane guitar and Halfordesque vocals matched by the heavy bottom of bassist Jermy Pastic. As Ellis and Pastic took to the road and Mokomokai’s reputation quickly grew, second guitarist Bobby Deuce (veteran of Moncton’s Iron Giant and Konjurer) packed up from New Brunswick and motored it to Toronto specifically to join forces. Mokomokai recently firmed up their assault with the addition of JJ Tartaglia (of renowned Toronto bands Skull Fist and Final Trigger).
Mokomokai’s debut LP ‘Poison Whiptail (on Toronto based Boonsdale records) is produced by iconic Candian hard rocker, DJ and studio master Ian Blurton (he of Public Animal, C’mon, Bionical and Change of Heart). Arriving in 2017, the album draws from the New Wave of British Heavy Metal and it’s golden era of the late 70’s-early 80’s, unleashing an unwavering blitzkrieg of stoner groove, raw hooks and Metal Godliness. The track ‘Walkin’ Boss’ summons the ultimate gunslinger to a trail of fire while ‘Poison Whiptail’ and ‘Heavy Metal Sky’ pulse with Painkiller hearts that vigorously resurrect the genre’s most glorious era. The breadth and depth of Poison Whiptail is a full feast for rock and rollers and metal heads alike.

Last week Mokomokai announced their next show in Toronto, at The Opera House on Friday July 14th. The band will be headlining Boonsdale Metal Fest with support from Axxion, Final Trigger, Zeroscape and Operus. Tickets at Ticketfly or at the door.
John Ellis, vocals/guitar of Mokomoaki, comments "Love Toronto Metal, love Toronto metalheads, really looking forward to going back to the city to be on such a killer Boonsdale bill!"
Boonsdale Metal Fest 2017 is the brainchild of label owner owner JJ Tartaglia “This is the first edition of Boonsdale Fest, and hoping to make it an annual thing. There's been a lack of metal fests in the Toronto area in recent years, so I'm hoping this will fill that void a bit and encourage other fests to emerge. It's essentially a celebration of local metal, and a chance to showcase some of the top bands that we have on the label on a bigger stage and to a bigger audience. It's gonna be a great party at a cheap ticket price, so I expect the metal community to be out in full force!"
