Longtime bassist Frederic Leclercq has announced that he is leaving the band to pursue other musical projects. He apparently has a new band lined up, but has yet to announce details. I will say that it's going to be weird seeing DragonForce without Fred. He had a big hand in writing much of the material on the band's last two albums. Fred comments on his departure: "I had an amazing opportunity that will be announced soon. There is no bad blood and I wish the band all the best. I want to thank the fans for their support throughout the years.” |
Guitarist Herman Li states: "As sad as we are to lose him, we are excited that he is going to continue playing the music he loves. He will always be a friend and a member of the DragonForce family. Fred’s last show with DragonForce will be this weekend at Elb-Riot in Hamburg, Germany. We are going to have a massive celebration for Fred, please come out and send him off!"
The main thing that matters is that he's leaving on good terms with the band. DragonForce is set to release their new studio album Extreme Power Metal on September 27th on Metal Blade Records, which will be the last album to feature Fred.
