Blog author: Alex Stojanovic Well well well, here's a nice surprise to start the day off. After five long years, it's been confirmed that Dirge Within have announced a reunion. For me personally, it's really exciting to hear this news because the band's music brings back many good memories for me. I remember listening to their first album Force Fed Lies (2009) quite a bit during my senior year of high school when it first came out, as well as the follow-up There Will Be Blood (2012) and I'm still cranking them. I also had the pleasure of seeing them live when they supported Trivium in Toronto in November 2009 (Wow, I feel old, hahaha) As a result of the reunion, the band have put The Bloodline to rest and will be continuing as Dirge Within. I will say though, I loved the We Are One record The Bloodline put out in 2015. What's even more exciting about this reunion is that vocalist Jerms Genske is back in the band, along with founding guitarist Shaun Glass, lead guitarist Chuck Wepfer, drummer Frankie Harchut (who all performed on There Will Be Blood) and bassist Mike Sylvester, who was a part of The Bloodline. |
Jerms comments on the reunion: "After five years of not speaking, Shaun and I decided it might be cool to meet up and talk - just to make sure we could be in the same room without throwing punches! We had a couple of drinks, talked about old tours, and hashed out our previous issues. I acknowledged my role in the split from Dirge Within, as did he. Eventually, the idea came out about a revival of DW, even if it was just to jam the old tunes for fun. We all met up at the rehearsal studio in Chicago a few weeks later, and once we started playing, it almost seemed like there was never a break. Almost. Some spots sounded better than the first time around, while others needed some polish. What was certain is that there was definitely a buzz in the room. A full blown rebirth? Only time will tell how far we'll go, but Goddamn, it feels good to play the tunes again!"
Shaun comments: "Yes it's true - Jerms and the guys are all back in the saddle! Chuck, Frankie, Mike and I are throwing it down hard as nails, and Jerms sounds fantastic! After just a few jams of our previously material, everything has been slamming. Strangely enough, it feels like we've never stopped. The past has been put behind us, and we're hopeful for the future. Stand by, as we're looking to level some stages very soon!"
I think I can speak for all the Dirge Within fans out there that we're really excited that the band is back and ready to slam our faces again. Look for more news from the band regarding shows and possibly new music to come very soon.
