Former Trivium Members Travis Smith and Brent Young Launch New Band: BlackNova

Many people have gone on to say that Trivium has not been the same since the departure of drummer Travis Smith. Ever since his departure in late 2009, many of us fans have wondered if we would ever see him in a band again. Well, the good news is that Travis indeed has a new band and it is called BlackNova. The lineup is a trio and is rounded out by original Trivium bassist Brent Young on bass and lead vocals, who played on Ember To Inferno, and Rob Adams on guitar.

At the moment, the band are currently in the studio putting together an EP, which is scheduled for release in the spring of 2018. The first single from the EP is titled "Eclipse From Within" and it will be accompanied with a music video. Stay tuned for that.

Look out all my fellow old-school Trivium fans. Travis and Brent are back in action and we're certainly looking forward to hearing what BlackNova have to offer.

APOCALYPSE ORCHESTRA RELEASES "THEATRE OF WAR" VIDEO

Swedish medieval metallers APOCALYPSE ORCHESTRA have released a video for the album track, "Theatre of War," which is culled from their The End is Nigh release on Despotz Records. The band has teamed up with US based website MIRP for the premiere of the video, which can be seen here.

The video was directed and edited by the band members themselves, using a multitude of photographers, including, Ida Long, Michael Larsson, Catja Ström, Jonas Hammar and Erik Larsson, with projected animations by Mio Dal from designavdal.se.

Regarding the video, the band collectively says, "War. The ultimate madness of the human race. Few things have shaped history as much. Imagine the horror of the peasant soldier, forced by a callous sovereign to march into battle. Bodies and limbs of those fallen strewn on the ground, a veritable feast for the carrion birds circling above . The survivors forever mentally scarred. A rain starts to fall. There is no glory in war."

On February 16, 2018, APOCALYPSE ORCHESTRA will make their first German festival appearance at Frostfeuernächte in Heidesee, near Berlin.

AC/DC's Malcolm Young Passes Away

Well this is certainly not the type of news you want to wake up to. It has unfortunately been confirmed that AC/DC's one and only Malcolm Young passed away today. He was only 64.

It's no secret what Malcolm went through in the past few years with having to leave AC/DC due to being diagnosed with dementia and was admitted to a nursing home. He was also successfully treated for lung cancer after the Black Ice tour.

This is without a doubt one of the biggest losses, not only of 2017, but to the music world in general.

Angus posted the following statement regarding his passing:

Today it is with deep heartfelt sadness that AC/DC has to announce the passing of Malcolm Young.

Malcolm, along with Angus, was the founder and creator of AC/DC.
With enormous dedication and commitment he was the driving force behind the band.
As a guitarist, songwriter and visionary he was a perfectionist and a unique man.
He always stuck to his guns and did and said exactly what he wanted.
He took great pride in all that he endeavored.
His loyalty to the fans was unsurpassed.

As his brother it is hard to express in words what he has meant to me during my life, the bond we had was unique and very special.

He leaves behind an enormous legacy that will live on forever.

Malcolm, job well done.

We all send our deepest condolences to Malcolm's family, friends and fans worldwide. Thank you Malcolm for all the great timeless music you've given us. We salute you. R.I.P.

Machine Head Announce Release Date for New Album, Premiere New Track

The time has come! It's January 26th that Machine Head will be releasing their new album Catharsis. To add to that excitement, pre-orders are available now, and the band have premiered a new track for our listening pleasure. The track is called "Beyond The Pale" and is available for streaming down below. It's quite melodic, but still real heavy. It's got a real nice groove to it. Robb Flynn's vocals also sound just slightly different, but it's still him. Check it out for yourselves and see what you think. Germany's PHOSPHOR unleash new album titled Weltenbrand!

“Weltenbrand” is the title of the new PHOSPHOR album. With passion driven musicians the album quickly gets to the point and delivers emotions of joy and harshness throughout the 13 tracks.

This is the bands second release; their last debut "Raum / Zeit", delivered harsh vocals in the German language and the band is consistently pursuing new ideas without convention or limitation.

The band is supported by guest musicians Simon Rippin on drums (Fields of the Nephilim, The Eden House) , Shir-Ran Yinon on violin (New Model Army, Eluveitie, Haggard) and Antje Dieckmann (Patenbrigade: Wolff) on vocals. Weltenband promises dark melodic yet catchy riffs and Phosphor have successfully created a varied and complex album. It is heavy, ruthless and more powerful than their previous release.

PHOSPHOR have created a much darker, more infectious atmosphere, which was deliberately set in relation to the title "Weltbrand" and its content.

"Change" is the theme of the new album. The constant change in everything around as is explored as is death and resurrection. The awareness of oneself is determined by changes in each individual’s life both on an incremental and large scale with reference to global catastrophes or momentary political-social developments.

"Weltenbrand" is an album full of deep passion, aggressiveness and apocalyptic depth. It shows hope and the possibilities presented in light of every change.
