Endorphins kicked off the night with some modern metal mixed with thrash and punk. The band had been broken up for about 10 years now, but they reformed to play this show. The band mentioned that it was their first show in 2 years, but second show in 10 years. As far as the vocals go, there were cleans, some shouting and a few gutterals, and they were the most energetic band of the night. At the front of the stage, the band had a box with copies of their album Where Evil Lies that they were giving out for free, so a few people went up and grabbed themselves a copy. A standout moment of their set was at the end where towards the last minute or so of the last song, Michael Amaral's guitar broke, so he went for his backup guitar and mentioned he didn't have a strap, and all of a sudden, someone in the crowd threw a strap on to the stage. Their set consisted of 16 songs and it was just one great song after another. Anyone that has seen the band live before or is a fan, knows that the band take pride in creating songs with tons of hooks and memorability. Frontman Joe Di Taranto's vocals are very much in the vein of Myles Kennedy. He and Johnny Salerno as a guitar tandem are exceptional, especially how they lock in when harmonizing. The vocal harmonies are handled by Joe and bassist Alberto Campuzano for the most part with Johnny joining in on some songs, but Joe and Alberto as a vocal tandem are tough to beat. This show was also the band's first show where drummer Mike Harshaw is an official member after playing with the band off and on for some time. The band began their set with "To Hell & Back", followed by "Empty" and "Eye For An Eye". I was incredibly happy that the band played "Alone", and according to Joe, a few people have asked for that song to be played. | Written by: Alex Stojanovic Photography: Alex Stojanovic Photo edit: Navneet Johal (C)2017 All rights reserved by www.metalmasterkingdom.com @ The Rockpile Toronto, ON Canada May 26, 2017 Ever since the first time I saw Warmachine on stage two years ago at the Mod Club opening for Marty Friedman, I became a fan instantly. Their heavy and hooky tunes inspired by classic metal got stuck in my head for days. You know when you hear a groove or melody or harmony that sounds just fantastic, you just smile and bob your head? That's exactly what Warmachine's songs make me do. I most recently saw the band when they opened for Annihilator at the Opera House this past September, but I was looking forward to the day I could see them play a headline show. Sure enough, the band played a headline show at the Rockpile West on May 26, 2017 and I jumped at the chance to see the show. It was only my second time at the Rockpile, but it's a great venue. The atmosphere at the show was very chilled and more laid back than the typical metal show at a small venue, but there was still plenty of headbanging going on. Their music, rather than being wild, seemed more controlled and more groove-oriented, making it easier for the music to breathe. Their sound was more in the vein of straightforward hard rock and vocalist Rob DeLuca had the perfect type of vocals for that sound. Some of the songs the band performed included "Hesitate", "Overrated", "Beneath Me", "Grounded", "Take The Fall" and "The Shore" They even treated us to a cover of Megadeth's "Symphony Of Destruction", which was pretty cool. A very solid performance by a great sounding band. (C)2017 All rights reserved by www.metalmasterkingdom.com Photo: Alex Stojanovic |
