Lauderdale, FL, USA February 4, 2019 Sevendust are no stranger to South Florida. In fact, we are one of their favorite places to make routinely visits to. That being said, it was a little different this time. They have a new album: All I See Is War, an amazing lineup, and many new fans to impress. This time, we won't be seeing them in the same cozy spot we've become accustomed to seeing them. Instead of playing the world famous Culture Room, they have booked the next step up in Ft Lauderdale, which is the Revolution Night Club. Now, packing Revolution on a Monday night is no easy task for anyone, but Sevendust is not just anyone! |
Monday night and early on, the crowds seem to be very light. I did arrive just as Lullwater began their set. It was my first time hearing the Georgia based band, and I have to say that they had a very unique and powerful sound. Rhythm guitarist and lead singer John Strickland belted out some amazingly memorable vocals reminiscent of the Seattle grunge scene. At many points, I would venture to say a very Chris Cornell, early Soundgarden sound mixed in with some pulsing rhythms and tasty blues-like solos. Lullwater are no strangers to the touring circuit. They are veterans who have toured extensively and work very hard to please old and new fans alike. Having recently put the finishing touches on their newest music, they are set to release in 2019. Greatly impressed by their live sound and can't wait to hear the new music! We now move on to well notable Louisiana natives Cane Hill. Their newest effort Kill The Sun is out now and fans are eating it up. The best way to describe my experience with Cane Hill is to take hard pre-aggressive riffs, mash them with acid rock classics and force them to have a baby. I'm not really a big fan of this style of music, but I will say that this 4-piece came solid with their delivery. Vocalist Elijah Witt not only knows how to command a crowd, but has an incredible range on his vocals. The band is no stranger to the stage and with good reason. Tremonti is the creation of none other than Mark Tremonti of Alter Bridge, and formerly of Creed. I was able to catch Mark with Alter Bridge years earlier, but Tremonti is a whole new beast. Indeed, Tremonti is a heavy metal band and makes no apologies about it. From the start, they come out of the gate with high energy, solid musicianship and punishing music. Mark by his own right, is an incredibly talented musician, but that by no means takes away from the talent of his band, having put together an array of incredible musicians. I was highly impressed by their live performance and some of the songs of the newest effort A Dying Machine are off the chain. Overall, I was very impressed with Tremonti's performance and music, and would definitely recommend anyone who hasn't heard them yet to give them a chance. I guarantee that you won't be disappointed. Now, we move on to the final act of the night and the reason why we all gathered on a Monday night to honor rock 'n roll: Sevendust! What once was a barely packed nightclub venue has now transformed into sold out show elbow to elbow with rabid fans waiting to hear what Sevendust would be throwing down! The lights go down and here comes the intro music for the song that started it all for me, "Black"! If you've never had a chance to see Sevendust live yet, you are really missing out. Even on their worst days, Sevendust prices just how they are placed on top of the elites in rock music. They moved along their set without missing a beat and delivered a non stop audio assault on our senses. One of the best shows I have seen by the Atlanta based rock outfit. Overall, I will deal with Tuesday any day as long as I get to see a Monday rock show as good as this! Make sure to pick up All I See Is War, out now, because Sevendust is not messing around! All in all, an amazing Monday night of hard and heavy rock! | |
