Kicking off the party were hometown titans Ammo. This was the second time I've seen them, as I remember seeing them as part of Wacken Metal Battle Canada in 2015. Their musicianship in particular stood out, and the guitar harmonies were nothing short of ear candy. One of the songs they played was "Too Metal For Metal". My first thought when I heard the chorus was that it sounded identical to the chorus of Judas Priest's "Hell Bent For Leather". I'm not sure if it was their intention to make it sound like that, or if it just happened out of the blue. Either way, a good start to the night.
It was now time for Warbringer to hit the stage. To warm up the crowd, Motorhead's "We Are The Road Crew" played on the P.A. The lights then went out, and Warbringer hit the stage, and kicked off their set with the awesome one-two punch of "Remain Violent" and "Severed Reality". John Kevill is a powerhouse on stage with his machine-gun and throat-slitting hand gestures, and fierce headbanging. There were times where I thought he was going to severely head-butt some people in the front, but thankfully he didn't. The mosh pit was fierce as they ripped their way through pit-starting ragers like "Hunter-Seeker", "Living In A Whirlwind", "Combat Shock", "Sillhouettes", "Woe To The Vanquished" and "Living Weapon". They also played a brand new song that they made available earlier that very afternoon called "Firepower Kills".
You would think that after the amount of energy the crowd exuded while watching Warbringer, they would be drained. However, they were still full of energy by the time Enforcer took the stage to end the night. Chase Becker from Warbringer filled in on bass for Tobias Lindqvist. Frontman Olof Wikstrand had powerful stage presence, and has one powerful voice to go with it. They captivated the crowd with storming tracks like "Destroyer", "Die For The Devil", "Undying Evil", "From Beyond", "Live For The Night", "Mesmerized By Fire" and "Take Me Out Of This Nightmare". With their fierce energy, and anthemic tunes, they made the small Velvet Underground stage seem larger. There's still a bunch of dates left on this massive tour, so if it's hitting your city, be sure to go check it out. You'll be so glad you did. Trust me on that.
