That is a pretty awesome 1-2 punch, considering that both bands have had major success throughout their respective careers. |
First up, we had Three Days Grace. The Toronto based band got a warm welcome home from their hometown fans. They started off with the Hockey Night In Canada theme song, accompanied with a video of various Toronto Maple Leafs moments. I loved them showing off their Canadian pride! After the video they went right into the setlist with their lead single from their latest album Outsider “The Mountain”. Fans of the new album definitely got their money’s worth, with “Right Left Wrong” and “Infa-Red” also being played. However, if you are someone like my fiance, who is a fan of the old stuff, then you were not going to be disapointed, because the band touched on several fan favourites, such as “Home”, “Pain”, and “Never Too Late”. The latter of which had everyone in Scotiabank Arena raising their lighters and cell phones to really light the place up. The biggest roar by far went to their first hit “I Hate Everything About You”. Before the song, lead singer Matt Walst talked about how they recorded that song on Spadina Avenue in downtown Toronto way back when, to which my immediate thought was “Dude, you weren’t even the lead singer then.” Now, for all I know, he was there during the recording since his brother is bassist Brad Walst, but hey, what do I know. It was just a moment that kind of threw me off, but it was still awesome to hear the song live. Overall, they were a great choice for an opening act. If they have a headlining tour anytime soon, then I will surely go and see them. They started off with a powerful compilation video of their fans and various shows over the years before going into the lead single of their latest album Evolution: “Are You Ready”. I have seen these guys three times now, but this had to be the most powerful performance I have ever witnessed from them. After spending about an hour on the main stage, they started to head towards the second stage for some very powerful performances of “A Reason To Fight”, and “Watch You Burn”. The former was dedicated to The Prodigy lead singer Keith Flint (who had taken his own life earlier that day). R.I.P. Keith Flint. After the song was finished, lead singer David Draiman had everyone in the arena raise their hands if they were struggling with addiction or depression, or knows someone who is struggling with those issues, and had them look around the arena with the lights on bright and reminding them that they are not alone. It was a very powerful message to share with everyone and a great memory. Speaking of memories, “Hold On To Memories” also got a great reception, and it came with a video with some of Disturbed’s favourite moments on the road. Beforehand, fans got to see a kick ass bass solo from John Moyer and drum solo from Mike Wengren. |
Overall, it was a great night of rock. During the performance of “The Light”, David had a couple of kids come up on stage with their parents beforehand to share the experience. Both kids were wearing Disturbed merchandise, and said they loved Disturbed. That proved one very important thing…...ROCK WILL NEVER DIE! Go see Disturbed when you get the chance!
