The second these guys started the mosh pit began. The last time this band played in Toronto was on May 30th at the same venue. This time around Warbringer somehow gathered even more energy than before. Playing their newest album Woe To The Vanquished with a few fan favourites, their set seemed to end way too quickly. Most impressive of their performance is how much these guys move around the stage, a fairly small stage at that, and make it look effortless. Vocalist John Kevill produced some amazing vocals throughout the entire set, while Adam Carrol on guitar, Chase Becker on guitar, and Jessie Sanchez on bass moved around the stage on a constant. Drummer Carlos Cruz kept up an amazing pace playing the drum kit like it was a child’s toy. Pure raw energy is the only way to describe these guys live Photo: Rob Botten (C)2017 All rights reserved www.metalmasterkingdom.com | Written by: Rob Botten Photography: Rob Botten (C)2017 All rights reserved www.metalmasterkingdom.com @ The Mod Club Toronto, ON Canada September 18, 2017 Last November, Toronto had an amazing concert at the Mod Club headlined by Swedish melodic death metal heavyweights Dark Tranquillity. In a mere ten months, the band has toured Europe, South America, Latin America, Ukraine, Russia, and are now back on another back-to-back North American tour. Proving they have no intentions of stopping anytime soon, the band is once again on tour through North America with a jam-packed schedule of near back-to-back shows. Nearly halfway into the tour, having played eight shows in a row, the Mod Club hosted the band, along with Striker and Warbringer on September 18th, for what was a night of constant energy from the crowd and the bands. First up was Striker; an Edmonton, Alberta based “new wave of heavy metal” band that would get the eager arrivals of the venue pumped. Pure hard passion and energy is the best way to describe these guys. On the first song alone, they had members of the crowd head-banging and singing along to their songs as they shredded the guitars and worked the stage like they owned it. With their clean vocals and non-stop energy from song to song, the pace of the night was set. Photo: Rob Botten (C)2017 All rights reserved www.metalmasterkingdom.com As the stage was prepped, the projectors on the three screens were on with the DT logo. The lights dimmed and the atmosphere inside the Mod Club changed. You could feel the hairs stand on the back of your neck as the energy was building for what was to come. Chants of “DT! DT! DT!” could be heard once again like the last time Dark Tranquillity were on this same stage. Then, as members of the band came out, the crowd roared and the music began with "Force Of Hand" from their newest album Atoma. Just as things were getting going, Mikael Stanne had a slight misstep on the drum riser, as he fell backwards, spilling a couple cups of beer in the process. With true showmanship, he got up, smiled it off and continued on like nothing happened. This only fed the crowd’s energy and they all cheered back like nothing had happened. Fan favourites were put in amongst their amazing song’s from Atoma. Dark Tranquillity paid tribute to Toronto’s most passionate heavy metal fan Rob Cranny, who passed way five years ago, by playing "The Wonders At Your Feet". Near the end of their set "ThereIn" was played with the crowd singing along to the clean vocal parts. As the incredible night was nearing its end, the band pleased the fans with "State Of Trust", "Through The Smudged Lenses", and "Misery’s Crown" in the encore. |
