We're arriving at the end of the summer season and a new school year has officially begun for students. What's also beginning is the busy fall concert season where summer festival season in Europe comes to a close and now many bands bring their tours to North America. Starting off the bunch was none other than Venom Inc. with their Blood Stained Earth tour. At show #5, they brought the tour to the Mod Club on September 5th. For a Tuesday night, the club had a very respectable turnout. There is also a good mix of bands on the bill. Special guests for the tour are Goatwhore, Toxic Holocaust and The Convelascence. Before we get into the review, I need to get something off my chest. I was never big with the whole scenario of there being two versions of a certain band, but I understand that there's sometimes benefits to it. When it comes to Venom and fans wanting to hear the classics live, the regular version only plays a few shows a year at festivals sporatically. Venom Inc. on the other hand do full-scale tours, so the benefit of that is it gives many more fans across the globe the opportunity to hear the classics live. On top of that, two of the members are from the classic lineup, and all together, it's three members from the Prime Evil lineup, so I have nothing to complain about with this one. Unfortunately, The Convalescence weren't present at this show due to a couple of the members not having passports from what I was told, and due to our interview with Venom Inc, we were unable to catch Toxic Holocaust's set. As a result, the first band we caught was Goatwhore. As we walked back into the club, they were already well into their set, but they did not fail to impress. There were a bunch of Goatwhore t-shirts in the crowd. They managed to play a majority of the new material from their new album Vengeful Ascension like "Drowned In Grim Rebirth", "Forsaken", "Vengeful Ascension" and "Mankind Will Have No Mercy", but they also didn't forget to please the fans with some oldies as well like "Baring Teeth For Revolt", "Alchemy Of The Black Sun Cult", "When Steel & Bone Meet" and of course "Apocalyptic Havoc". The volume balance was perfect and you could hear everything very clearly, which is always a plus for any show in my book. Now it was time to really raise hell. Venom Inc. entered the stage as Satan's introductory speech in "Avé Satanas" played on the P.A. and the headbanging session began immediately as that fierce intro riff kicked in. A majority of the set consisted of the Venom classics, but they managed to throw in a select number of cuts from the new album Avé like "Avé Satanas", "Metal We Bleed" and "War". Demolition Man's microphone was set up just like Lemmy's as it was pointed downwards. If you think about it, Demolition Man's vocals are pretty much in the same realm as Lemmy's. Hearing the band play some of the Venom classics took me back to when I first saw Mantas and Demolition Man play as M-Pire Of Evil in 2012 on the Onslaught tour. The only difference this time around was that they played a lot more of them rather than just 7 songs. Some of the classics we were treated to included "Welcome To Hell", "Live Like An Angel, Die Like A Devil", "Countess Bathory", "Die Hard", "Witching Hour", "Don't Burn The Witch" and of course "Black Metal". However, we were also treated to some deep cuts like "Sons Of Satan", "Carnivorous" and "Blackened Are |
