They shrouded the stage with your standard band setup, in addition to two acoustic guitars and a keyboard. That alone brought them attention from the audience, as a cluster of fans gathered at front-and-center. With a solid performance involving an amalgamation of screams, growls, and clean vocals – it was their last song that stood apart from the rest. Supporting the release of their self-titled album, their final song proved them to be jaw-dropping musicians. Matt Hades also proved himself a magnificent bassist, taking over from Anthony Zhura who’s bass tracks remain on their latest album. With Derrick, formerly on drums, taking a grasp on the acoustic guitar, the band provided us with a satisfying closing number – engulfing us in an epic, intense and symphonic atmosphere. Lining up three ribbon mics side by side, with Morgan Rider with a custom black colored one in the center, the band took to their first song. The epic death metal band closed the night with everything they had, leaving the late night troopers longing for an aftermath. The 2015 International Wacken Metal Battle Winners definitely won us over with Dylan Gowan stealing the show on the drums and Casey Elliott and Frankie Caracci shredding their guitars. Vesperia proved to be on our definite ‘metal bands you must see before you die’ list; so, if they’re ever passing by your town, be sure to buy tickets – and prep yourself for a night of metal on metal. | The night at the hottest metal bar in Toronto: Coalition T.O., known for its true devotion to metal-heads and the like. So, it wasn’t a surprise to find the venue already hopping when Krista took the stage as the front-woman of Lutharo. The band divulged impressive showmanship, with wickedly designed Ltd and Jackson guitars, a wireless microphone and even synchronized head-banging! Lutharo pulled out all the hardcore stops – from growling female vocals to beautiful high notes, paired with devilish riffs, heart-racing bass lines and banging drumbeats. After playing songs such as “Black Scorpion”, they had our blood seeping with beer and urging for more metal. An ideal opening act to a back-to-back album release event. With Corey Seguin as their front man, Black Eve gathered the biggest crowd of the night. Supporting the release of their latest album, The Last Dragon, they laced the night with dry ice, dark vibes, and an affinity for mosh-pit inducing music. The adrenaline was high, with Corey’s biggest fan taking part on stage, waving her hair and snapping photos of the band throughout their set; leaving us with a true Hollywood feel. Towards their last few songs, Black Eve had us screaming “hey”, clapping our hands, pointing our horns, and banging our heads. Corey even had the audience participate in a mini ‘wall of death’, where fellow moshers drew a line of bodies on either side of the stage, and ran into each other at Corey’s cue. Black Eve? Check.
