I'm talking of course, about Behemoth. Behemoth has just recently released their latest full-length album I Loved You At Your Darkest, and it is without a doubt their best yet. Joining them on their promotional tour, Ecclesia Diabolica America, were Wolves In The Throne Room, and At The Gates. With the Toronto stop at the half-way point of the tour, and the energy continuously building from sold-out show after sold-out show, the night was destined to be insane. |
Wolves In The Throne Room came on first and fast, not hesitating for a second to get the show rolling. Unlike the last time I saw them, they waited two songs before bringing out burning sage and covering the stage with it’s smoke. They then continued with their brutal, cold, and fast black metal. With the hall now jam-packed, At The Gates entered the stage to an eruption of cheers. They too have recently released an album in early summer To Drink From The Night Itself with an incredibly fast and energetic sound. The very moment they started playing, the crowed went nuts and a huge mosh pit began to form in the center for the crowd. That was their set, not really talking to the crowd or taking much of a pause between each song. It was brutal, fast, energetic metal non-stop from start to finish. Upon the last song, there were a few chants in the hopes of hearing one more song, but that would be for their own headlining show. It was now time for Behemoth to enter the stage. Before it was even time for them to go on, the eerie chants from the beginning of “Solve,” the first song on I Loved You At Your Darkest would play every couple of minutes. Then, with a black curtain covering the stage, the lights went dark and silhouettes could be seen moving in the darkness. Starting with “Wolves Ov Siberia”, Behemoth went completely all out. Frontman Nergal, accompanied with drummer Inferno, bassist Orion, and guitarist Seth, all put on an insane show. These guys are true showmen. Using the whole stage to their advantage, Behemoth played nearly all their songs from the new album, along with fan favorites like “Ora Pro Nobis Lucifer,” “Conquer All” and “Slaves Shall Serve”. Nergal promised Toronto that they shall return, followed by him screaming “HAIL SATAN” with the crowd erupting in cheers and raising the horns. Their set was like nothing else, from quick costume changes to their lightshow and jets of stage fog; it’s one to remember for years to come. I am already anticipating their next show here in Toronto. It cannot come soon enough. This show was definitely in the top 10. That being said however, Behemoth put on the best set I’ve ever seen. The only thing it needed was a little fire. but that’s for a bigger stage. From song to song, their energy just kept building. Not to take anything away from Wolves In The Throne Room or At The Gates, who both also put on really good shows, it is simply impossible to compete when the headliners put on a show the way they did. Upon my return home, I had a hard time falling asleep. How could you sleep after a night like that? Behemoth continue their march across North America, and at this rate, all of their remaining shows may sell out. Catch those last remaining tickets if they are near you. You wont regret it. |
