Post 2009, going to shows hasn’t been eventful. Sure, people enjoyed the bands and there was some hype within the alternative and hardcore communities; however, there wasn’t the excitement that once resonated with fans. This has been my experience at every show I’ve attended up until the Beartooth show on Saturday September 15th, at the Danforth Music Hall in Toronto. Beartooth, joined by Sylar and Knocked Loose, changed my entire perspective on shows, as the fans’ passion was overwhelming. Before Sylar even went on stage, the entire room was filled of people clapping in unison, which is something I haven’t experienced before, and I’ve been to MANY shows. Once they hit the stage, the entire room just exploded as every single person around me was either screaming the lyrics, dancing, or running into the middle of the crowd. Every single person there was fully engaged, which is a rarity in today’s music scene. Sylar met the crowd with the same level of intensity, and their set was full of energy. Jayden Panesso ensured that he was continuously engaging with the crowd, and the crowd made it known that they were fully enjoying the show. This show was unique, as each band had an extreme amount of crowd interaction, and it was definitely reciprocated. Sylar’s set was the perfect start for the show as everyone kept getting more amped up as they progressed through the setlist. The energy of the crowd seemed to grow as Sylar finished their set, and most of the crowd refused to leave their spots as they waited for Knocked Loose. I quickly ran outside and by the time I had come back inside the crowd made it known that they were ready for Knocked Loose. As the band ran onstage, the crowd erupted in excitement, and within two seconds, everyone was screaming every word. Knocked Loose were amazing live, and they made sure that everyone stayed engaged during their entire set. The vocals were extremely strong, and they sounded exactly how they sound on their albums. I was shocked at how in sync the entire set was, and how everyone in the audience maintained their level of excitement for the entire set. As soon as Knocked Loose finished their set, the energy in the venue seemed to grow even more, which is something I didn’t think was possible. Once the stage set up was complete and the lights dimmed, everyone in the crowd screamed and was met with “We Will Rock You” playing over the speakers. The crowd energetically screamed every word until Beatooth took the stage, and they were absolutely amazing live. They had everyone singing to every word, and actually had the crowd scream the vocal parts of “I Have A Problem”. They played a mixture of songs from Aggressive, Disgusting, and played quite a few songs off their upcoming new album Disease, which will be released on September 28th. The crowd was completely engaged throughout the entire set, and the energy was at an all-time high for the remainder of the show. When Beartooth closed with “In Between”, every single person was screaming every single word. Sylar, Knocked Loose, and Beartooth put on an absolutely amazing show. I would highly suggest going to see the Disease Tour when it comes to your area. Make sure you check out Beartooth’s new album, Disease, when released. | SYLAR Photo credit: Anna Sklavos (C) 2018 www.metalmasterkingdom.com KNOCKED LOOSE Photo credit: Anna Sklavos (C) 2018 www.metalmasterkingdom.com BEARTOOTH Photo credit: Anna Sklavos (C) 2018 www.metalmasterkingdom.com |
