I remember waking up on the morning of May 22nd last year and I went on my phone to check my Facebook and the first thing I see in my news feed was a status from a Megadeth-related page saying that Nick passed way the previous night, and I just froze. I, like everyone else, was hoping it was a hoax, but sadly, it wasn't.
Being a drummer myself, Nick was a big influence on me. His sense of feel and groove was just incredible, and he knew exactly where and when to add in something flashy. He was like the Jeff Porcaro of metal because he was really creative, especially with his work on Rust In Peace and Countdown To Extinction.
Today, a video was released which features David Ellefson (Megadeth), Alex Skolnick (Testament), Jason Bittner (Shadows Fall/Overkill), Rob Cavestany (Death Angel), Chris "OJ" Ojeda (Byzantine), Anthony Tiny Biuso (TSOL/Doyle), Tomislav Ivkovic and Davor Garasic (Sufosia), Chad Brandolini (Vater Percussion), Cory Danziger (Scenefour Inc.) and Nick's sons Dante and Nicholas all sharing their favourite memories of Nick and paying their respects. You can watch it below.
R.I.P. Nick. Greatly missed but never forgotten
