As I sit here and write you this piece about the metal sisters and brothers in Lebanon, I am forced to realize that I am very fortunate to be here in the western world where I can listen, and even play (if I could), the music genre of my life: METAL!
I have pissed off neighbours, family, and even friends with my love of playing heavy metal and many of the now modern sub genres; but to be hunted and persecuted for this love would be a total conflict of reality here in Canada.
As a matter of fact, I have been known to surprise, maybe astonish some that I am a part of the metal culture here in my neck of the woods. I have never been labeled as a Satanist, or devil worshipper, but I have noticed some people are not able to even approach this genre and do not wish to pursue that part of the conversation. Ignorance is bliss, but not in Lebanon. The government, the media, and the nay sayers have managed to convince the society to hate and persecute our fellow headbangers with false accusations and gross, negligible, false scenarios of our beloved mosh pits, horns, long hair, and band tees!
