"It's not an honour to be nominated", says Paul Stanley. After reading the February 14, 2014 article in Classic Rock Magazine, I have to say I am floored by the way that Paul Stanley is slamming an organization that is inducting KISS on April 10, 2014. Is he mad because KISS were overlooked for nearly two decades of eligibility? |
That would be a solid reason. The question he needs to address now is: Why accept this accolade if he is dead set against the method in which the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame pick the inductees?
I am not the only one who is questioning Paul Stanley and the members of KISS for their reasons in accepting this offer. My metal collegue and friend, Randy "Rocket" Cody of The Metal Den has confronted Paul with the same question on Twitter. From all accounts, this shout out to Paul has become a war of words. Heated exchanges have erupted between Randy Cody, Paul Stanley and KISS fans.
Quote from the Classic Rock Magazine interview with Paul Stanley in accepting the R & R Hall of Fame award: "It means a lot to the fans and In understand it because it's validation for them. So for that reason, I accept graciously and accept on their behalf." Seriously? If a band is loved as much as their fans claim they do, then why do the fans need validation from a group of people with elitist attitudes. I really question KISS' respect for their fans. After all, who else in this rock and roll business has the audacity to charge $4,250.00 for a book? Damn, for that price, I want KISS to give me a private show. And why would anyone pay that kind of money for a band that were viewed as a joke in the 70s? Their gimmick to dress up was what got the curiosity of the fans in the first place. Their music was very simplistic and didn't advance musically to date. In all honesty, I have lost respect for KISS due to the over the top marketing practices and sell-out methods of Gene Simmons and Paul Stanley. They have shown their fans that the best way to respect a band is to buy, buy, buy.
Politics aside, I for one will not be relying on the R & R Hall of Fame to validate any band that I support. That is something a true music fan will understand.
