"Fallen Stars is hard at work finishing up their next studio album, in the meantime we wanted to share a few songs that we love playing on stage and want to express our passion and energy that we put in every live performance. We felt this captured some of our essence as we continue to evolve and aim to bring the best quality of performance, music and images to our fans."

When it comes to reviews, we've reviewed so many albums and songs, but we've never really reviewed an actual music video (as far as I'm aware). Well, there's a first time for everything. Vancouver outfit Fallen Stars are releasing two music videos for two new songs, and both videos will be reviewed by a different writer. In this review, I'll be talking about the video for the song "Trial By Fire". The video shows the band performing in a rehearsal space, and different camera angles show the lights used for the lighting effects, giving the video a bit of a behind-the-scenes vibe. While a standard music video that shows a band playing in a certain setting, along with actors and a narrative are great, the videos with just the band performing, whether live or in a rehearsal room, sends the message just as clearly as anything else.
Musically, I wouldn't call the song amazing because unfortunately, it really didn't do anything to grab me. Even though there aren't any vocal effects, which is always a good thing, the vocals seem forced. To me, it feels like very little to no thought was put into the vocal melodies, and Rose Weekes just sang the first idea for a melody that came into her head and just left it like that. From what I hear, emotion is what Rose is all about, which is no issue at all, because there's many vocalists out there that are more about emotion, and they sound fantastic, but Rose's vocals hardly did anything for me. Sorry, Rose. On top of that, there were a few spots where the volume of the vocals sounded higher than the music.
When it comes to writing vocal melodies, thinking of all the variations of the melody that would fit is the best thing to do. Who knows, that's probably what Rose did, but because I wasn't there when the song was in the writing stages, I wouldn't know if she did or not. I don't know if I'm right or wrong, but this is just what I felt when I first heard the vocals. They just felt rushed. If you come up with a few great variations of the vocal melody and have a hard time choosing which one to put in the song, try the two or three that sound the best, and that give you the best feeling when you sing them, then narrow it down to the one that you think is the ultimate variation, and go with that one. That also goes for the other instruments. All I'm saying is, when creating a song, take all the time as you need. You can't rush art.
On the plus side, the main guitar harmony is decent, but it also didn't grab me instantly like I hoped it would. Not trying to be mean here, just letting you know what I think. Everyone has different ears, so my opinion is not the be all, end all. For anyone reading this review, just because I say the song didn't do much for me, it doesn't mean that it won't do anything for you. Give it a listen and create your own judgement. Who knows, you might enjoy the song a lot. To Fallen Stars, we thank you guys for getting in touch with us for a review of the song and the video, and we wish you all the best for the future.
