Last year saw the band return with a vengeance with the release of their blistering new album Woe To The Vanquished after hitting some bumps in the road with lineup changes. The album exceeded all expectations and the band have been relentlessly touring the globe ever since. |  |
Most recently, the band started posting pics of them in the studio on their Facebook, leading to speculation that they were gearing up to record the Woe To The Vanquished follow-up. However, they surprised us all just a few days ago when they announced that they would be releasing a new track called "Power Unsurpassed". According to frontman John Kevill, the song is about "people who want to take orders from no one, and to make their will reality -- at any price."
The track will serve as a nice holdover until the next album, which I can see the band releasing sometime next year. As expected with any Warbringer track, violent riffs from Adam Carroll and Chase Becker fly in from all directions, and Kevill dominates the track with his deadly voice. Another prominent feature in the track are the gang vocals, which Warbringer are no strangers to, and they really emphasize the heaviness. The track transitions into a pummeling half-time groove towards the end, which is perfect for headbanging. To close out the track, we get an audio clip of one of Donald Trump's childish quotes.
My only criticism about the track is that the guitars sound a little buried in the mix with the vocals being more up front. Other than that small flaw, "Power Unsurpassed" is another awesome and deadly thrash attack from Warbringer. They always release quality material, and this one track leaves us wanting more. I can certainly speak for all the fans when I say that we're looking forward to the band's next album. In the meantime, crank "Power Unsurpassed".
