Today I received a song review request from the duo SILENCE IN THE SNOW who are releasing an upcoming album titled Levitation Chamber due to be released July 26th, 2019 via Prophecy Productions, and available on gatefold LP, CD Digipak, and digital platforms.
“Smoke Signals” Heavy drum beats and electric guitar chords start this Gothic and magical journey. Candles, chairs, fire and darkness fill in the visual effects while the drums (sounding like a fast heartbeat) and the guitar chords (that undeniable Gretsch sound) set up the stage for Cyn M's summoning of the ethereal world. Her body movements and voice suggest a conjuring of spirits and this speaks to anyone who understands the connection of fire, earth, and the realms we do not readily see. Halfway through the video the song slows down and shows Cyn M swaying and moving while a raging fire fills the space with sparks. I was looking for the simmering cauldron and altar but neither materialized. What did come through though is heartfelt vocals backed by strong drum beats and hauntingly dreamy keyboards. The fire surges all the while and creates a spiritual imagery. The split image of Cyn M and the quickening beat of the song is clearly a sign of the climax soon to come. And when it does arrive, the outtro is filled with keyboards and the visuals are lit with white fire as Cyn M continues waving her hands high with the flames. At times I felt like I was peeking in on the duo through a door peep hole and at other moments I see the rapidly growing fire and an entranced earthly body exposed to a dark filled atmospheric night. The entrancing visuals of the video enhanced the Gothic feel of the song. SILENCE IN THE SNOW captivated my spirit and delighted my senses which has sparked my desire for less complicated recorded music and the desire to explore realms we have ignored.
