Written by Alex Stojanovic VIO-LENCE IS: Sean Killian - Vocals Phil Demmel - Guitars Perry Strickland - Drums Bobby Gustafson - Guitars Christian Olde Wolbers - Bass Release Date: August 20, 2020 Label: Metal Blade Records Website: www.facebook.com/vioofficialpage www.instagram.com/vio_lence_band When Phil Demmel announced his departure from Machine Head back in September 2018, the first question on everyone's mind was whether he was going to resurrect Vio-Lence. At first, it didn't seem possible given Sean Killian's liver cirrhosis. |
After what Sean has gone through with his cirrhosis and transplant, people would think that his voice might not be up to par. However, when the band started playing live again, Sean was in amazing form both physically and vocally (from the videos I saw). When you compare the cover to the original, the differences are that the main riff is played in a more metal style, and Sean upped the aggression of the vocals with his signature shouting style. It would be interesting to hear Jello Biafra's thoughts on this version. Now, there have been numerous covers of this song that have been done over the years. Plus, I'm not a Dead Kennedys listener, because I was never a pure punk guy, so at this point, I can't really go like "Oh great, do we need another cover of this song?"
The production is awesome! Up to this point, we only heard Vio-lence recordings with the classic production style, which sounds amazing, but it's equally as awesome to hear Vio-lence recordings with current production, and it makes us look forward to the original material they have coming even more now. While people were hoping for an original song to be released, I think a cover was a cool idea for a starting point, because there's a strong possibility that the originals are still in the writing stages. People, just be happy that Vio-lence is back, and have new original music coming out. Since the band are taking their time with the new material (as all bands should), you can count on it being incredible when it's released.
