One of the recent requests we received came from Rexius Records, who are promoting music for Swedish metal outfit Unfound Reliance, who are currently working on their EP titled The Layered Mind. To give everyone a taste of what we can expect from the EP, the band have released the track "Cowards & Heroes", which this review will focus on.
First off, the band had me at their name. When I see a new band name for the first time, and if it's an intriguing name, as is the case with Unfound Reliance, the band has my attention and I'm eager to hear what the band has to offer musically. With "Cowards & Heroes", as the track begins, nothing is held back and we are greeted with a heavy grooving riff that kicks things into high gear. I can hear traces of Johan Hegg in Andrew Johansson's vocals, which is certainly not a bad thing. The chorus manages to throw a melodic moment our way with a tasty harmonized lead from guitarists Marcus Andersson and Patrik Edvinsson. Overall, a solid track and a nice tease of what we can expect from The Layered Mind. Keep your eyes and ears out for the EP to arrive soon.
