Written by Alex Stojanovic TRACK LISTING All Looks Alive...In The Dark Killer Krom Purge & Resist Flames To Frost Evolved From You Intent Comes To Shove We The Pawns Above This Storm TYMO IS: Tim Tymo - Vocals & guitars Nick Schwartz - Guitars & backing vocals Harlen Jacobs - Bass & backing vocals Marc Durie - Drums Release Date: August 19, 2017 Label: Unsigned | While we love giving coverage to the established bands, we also take great pride in giving the national and international local scenes coverage because there's so much local talent out there that deserves more recognition. If you're looking for some great old-school sounding metal with a modern touch, check out Tymo from Edmonton. Formed in 2014, they released their debut album The Lone Wolf in 2015, which was a concept album. The band even came in fourth place in Wacken Metal Battle Canada and have opened shows for numerous bands like Norma Jean, Mortillery, Mandroid Echostar, Native Construct and Ninjaspy just to name a few. This year, the band have released their sophomore album Purge & Reset, which sees the band shifting into a more straightforward thrash direction, which is right up my alley. |
Now before we wrap up, there's a flaw we need to address. If you listen to the lyrics on "Evolved From You", you'll get the idea that they were written by an immature 12-year-old. Sorry guys, but those lyrics had me going: "Really?". That's not saying the music isn't good. Great music combined with immature lyrics is like combining chocolate and steak. They just don't go well together. Aside from this flaw, Tymo have offered up a great collection of tunes worthy of your attention, especially if you're into old-school thrash and if you like your metal with a modern twist. There might not be anything groundbreaking to be found on Purge & Reset, but it's definitely worth a listen. Great job boys! Looking forward to hearing more from you in the future.
Highs: Great vocals, solid riffs and performances.
Lows: The lyrics in "Evolved From You". Nothing groundbreaking to be found.
Final Rating: 8/10
