The Raven Age have had a pretty big year so far, opening for Iron Maiden on The Book Of Souls world tour and they just finished opening for Anthrax on their European tour. I can only imagine what their shows must have been like if they opened with the title track and then the heavy hitting “Promised Land”. “Promised Land” is easily my favourite track on the album and it is only the second song here. It has a great build up at the beginning then it makes you jump up and down to the excellent riffs and the kick-ass drumming job by Jai Patel.
The one issue I have with the album however, is that all the songs sound relatively the same. It is hard to tell which song is which. However, there were songs that stood out such as “Trapped Within The Shadows”, “The Dying Embers Of Life” and “Behind The Mask”. Don’t get me wrong, this album is good. As much as some of the songs sounded the same, I was still banging my head to every song. Lead vocalist Michael Burrough has definitely proven his vocal chops. “Winds Of Change”, “The Dying Embers Of Life”, and “Promised Land” are prime examples of this.
Overall, if you are looking for some straightforward heavy metal, The Raven Age is for you. All the members from guitarist George Harris to drummer Jai Patel, perform at their very best. This is only their first album, so I can’t wait to hear what the rest of their career is going to sound like. Now that I have heard the album, I do hope they come back to Toronto sometime because I would love to see and hear them live. The album is available now. If you want to listen for yourself, pick up a copy.
