When you look back at the history of musicians who have had really illustrious careers playing with and writing songs for some of the biggest names in music, one of the first musicians that pops up is the one and only Steve Lukather, aka Luke. This man is one of the most respected and most in-demand guitarists and songwriters ever. In addition to being the sole original member in Toto, he has written and recorded songs and played guitar for Lionel Richie, Michael Jackson, Alice Cooper, Neil Diamond, George Benson, Cher, Elton John, Earth Wind & Fire, Kenny Loggins and Aretha Franklin just to name a few. Not a bad career, eh? Whether you like the music he has written/recorded or not, you can't not have respect for this man for what he has accomplished and the level of musician he is. There's a reason why he has all these credits under his belt after over 40 years in the business.
Last year, Luke started working on a brand new solo album, which will be released in 2021. As a teaser, he released the first single "Run To Me". Musically, the track pays tribute to 60s rock 'n roll. The guitar tone and the riffs definitely scream 60s. On top of that, there's no better way to pay tribute to the 60s, than to have a legend from the 60s featured on the track, and that 60s legend is Ringo Starr. In addition to Ringo playing drums on the track, there's also guest vocals from Luke's longtime Toto bandmate, vocalist Joseph Williams. The song almost feels like a modern Beatles tune. There's nothing overly complex about the song. It's just a straightforward, feel-good rock/pop tune paying tribute to 60s rock n roll.
