Don't you just love it when a song with a great groove, chunky riffs and great vocals comes on and it just sucks you in? You get that quite a bit with southern rock. When it comes to some of the up and coming southern rock and metal bands, Florida's Modern Day Outlaw is one of the bands to look out for, who have got one full-length and a brand new EP under their belts. The band's new EP Day Of Reckoning provides five new tracks filled with slamming grooves, tasty riffs and fantastic vocals.
What I give Modern Day Outlaw a lot of credit for is writing simple and straight-to-the-point songs. You can still say as much with simplicity as you can with technicality. Ron Brown goes to several places with his vocals. His gruff vocals are very much in the vein of Phil Anselmo with a little Ivan Moody of Five Finger Death Punch thrown in, and at the same time, he delivers some catchy melodic lines with tons of hooks. The songs provide much room for the vocals to breathe. My favourite tracks are "Good Day To Die", "Movin' On" and "Reved Up". If you love Pantera, Five Finger Death Punch, Black Label Society and Texas Hippie Coalition, there's no denying that you'll enjoying the slamming and catchy tunes Modern Day Outlaw has to offer. Pick up Day Of Reckoning as well as the band's full-length Southern State Of Mind.
