All the Dying Fetus hallmarks are present on this album, like John Gallagher and Sean Beasley's brutal gutterals, Gallagher's explosive riffs and searing solos, Beasley's frantic bass lines and Trey Williams' blistering drum attack. From start to finish, the album shows no mercy with violent riffs flying in from every direction. The band holds nothing back as "Fixated On Devastation" explodes like a nuclear bomb right out of the gate and simply pulverizes you. There are longer songs on this record with several of them reaching 5 minutes or over, with the longest being "Reveling In The Abyss", which reaches the 6.5 minute mark and "Panic Amongst The Herd" being the shortest reaching at just over 3 minutes. The former contains the most melodic part of the record, which is the lead during the breakdown closing out the song.
"Die With Integrity" is one of the best tracks on the album as it's pretty dynamic with hints of black metal and groove metal. Some of the tracks take a more simpler approach rather than being technical all the way through, but it still remains relentlessly brutal. I love the more thrashier vibes on "Ideological Subjugation" and "Seething With Disdain". In the latter, if the way the riff at the 1:56 mark starts off slow and picks up tempo doesn't make your hair stand up, then something's wrong with you. The riff transitions are flawless and they just make the songs that much more heavier and brutal. You can't help but get your fists in the air and your head banging. Is Williams human or machine though? Seriously, the man's chops are just ridiculous. His blazing blast beats, fills and double-kick attack are as dominant as the riffs, solos, bass lines and vocals.
Wrong One To Fuck With is 10 songs of pure menacing unadultered death metal, just how we like it. It's already secured a spot in my top 10 albums of this year. This is going to be tough for Dying Fetus to top. If you've already listened to or bought this album, awesome! If you haven't, what are you waiting for?
Highs: "Die With Integrity", "Seething With Disdain" and "Ideological Subjugation"
Lows: If you're not a fan of John Gallagher's vocals, or death metal in general, this album won't appeal to you.
Final Rating: 9/10
