I've had the opportunity to see Destruction live a few times over the past few years, and they honestly don't make too many changes to the setlist. The whole setlist on this album is mainly songs that they always play, minus a couple of tracks. They always play tracks like "Thrash 'Til Death", "Curse The Gods", "Nailed To The Cross", "Total Desaster", "The Butcher Strikes Back", "Mad Butcher", "Life Without Sense" and "Bestial Invasion". I honestly would've preferred they recorded a headline show for a live album where they played a full 18-19 song set, where they can really add in some more deep cuts, while still keeping some of the songs that they play at just about every show. Only then, would a Destruction live album really get me excited. When it comes to live releases, I honestly prefer live DVDs over live albums.
Given that absolutely NO live album is 100% purely live, when I heard the new songs, those being "Born To Perish" and "Betrayal", it felt like I was listening to the studio versions of the songs all over again, with the only difference being slightly different tones in the vocals. Destruction have re-recorded many of their classic songs, which you can hear on the two Thrash Anthems albums. If I want to listen to re-recorded versions of classics like "Curse The Gods", "Mad Butcher", "Total Desaster" and "Bestial Invasion", I'll just go listen to the Thrash Anthems versions. I completely understand that this is a nice live holdover until live shows can start happening again, but even when they do start happening again, would I go out of my way to listen to Born To Thrash? Most likely not. I'd much rather listen to the studio albums, and go hear the songs live in person at a show, but if you're a die-hard fan and you really love live albums, then check it out.
