Canadian black Metal band XUL are here with their debut self-released album Malignance, and what an impressive album it is! First thing is the production on the album is some of the higher quality production I have heard, especially with a self-released album. Here we have 5 guys that ALL are extremely talented, and you can hear that if you break down the music, but put them together, and well you have one hell of a band.
They have chemistry between them, and it shows in what you hear. The lead guitar is melodic and technical while the rhythm guitar is slow-mid paced, heavy and brutal. Deiter on bass is outstanding and hits complex notes with a very powerful and strong sound that just dominates. The drums vary from slow to fast, and Winters makes it sound like it is an easy task. He has some brutal beats and he can accommodate anything when it comes to what the other band members are doing. The vocals are just downright evil and outstanding!
I loved this album beginning to end, and you can hear the talent that lies there just waiting to come out and greet the world with what XUL has to offer. I can’t wait to hear what they come out with next. I hope some record company comes and grabs these guys because they have a lot to offer the metal community! Look forward to the future with XUL because I know we will be hearing from them again soon. Keep it up guys! You have a fan here that will be waiting to hear what is next for you!
