Hammerdrone is a melodic death metal band. Our music mixes up intense aggression, dark atmosphere and elegant melodies to deliver songs that are both epic and catchy. We have been compared to the likes of Amon Amarth, early Soilwork, Behemoth and Rotting Christ, among others. No clean singing, no symphonics. ​We live on the layers of deep time and history, strata of times past; life literally depends on centuries of decay. Now, progressive extreme metal visionaries CENTURIES OF DECAY build on the metal that has come before to create the metal of the future.
Formed in 2013 in Toronto, Ontario, CENTURIES OF DECAY sound is ‘atmospheric, intense, powerful, dynamic, and heavy’.
Drummer Derrick Doucette explains the roots of the band’s name.

“The intention of the name is to paint an image of nature reclaiming the lands and cities and erasing the traces of humanity once people have been removed from the world. This can also be open to interpretation. Some may see Centuries of Decay as being in reference to an extended period of social degradation or the idea of the planet being a barren land void of life entirely. We chose this name because we felt it conveyed a powerful image and atmosphere, which appropriately went hand-in-hand with our musical style.”
Centuries of Decay's self-titled debut album is an imaginative, uncompromising creation, fusing a variety of Black/Death elements and progressive modern influences. With dramatic tempo shifts, odd time signatures and many songs tipping the 10 minute mark, 'Centuries of Decay' is an epic journey to the apocalypse and beyond.

'Centuries of Decay' explores the cyclical nature of creation and destruction, history repeating itself. The self-titled track is set against a backdrop of horrific worldwide destruction. Even though civilization is destroyed, nature reclaims the land. From there, the rest of the album recounts the beginnings of social unrest (The Architect), corruption and disillusionment (Asylum, Odyssey) and eventually war (Wings of Death, Rise). The album comes to a close with Demise, a twelve minute epic that pulsates with powerful atmosphere and devastating intensity.
