Two bands leave.” On January 12th, four local indie bands stepped into the ring for round one of Wacken Metal Battle Calgary, with all contenders vying for a chance to represent Canada at the greatest metal festival on Earth--Wacken Open Air--in Germany, next summer. |
First to drop the gloves were veterans King Mammoth, who delivered a straight up no nonsense set of bluesy punk rock with a metal edge.
Next, Hammerdrone met the challenge of their rivals by opening the flood gate of extreme metal that would dominate the rest of the night.
Blackest Sin followed up with a relentless blackened thrash assault.
Casting their bleak shadow over the battlefield, indigenous triumvirate Dethgod brought the first round of battle to a close.
While all four bands fought valiantly, in the end, Dethgod and Hammerdrone emerged victorious, both advancing to the Calgary final on February 23, 2018.
