IN CHARGE OF THE SCYTHE ALBUM REVIEW - DROPS AUGUST 23, 2013 PUBLISHED AUGUST 22, 2013
THUNDER AND LIGHTNING
Thunder and Lightning strike a brilliant balance between superb musicianship and unique lyrical content. Forgive me for the comparison, but TnL are a band who are capable of creating songs, and albums into a musical story, much like one of my all time fave bands Iron Maiden. On vocals, Diddi belts out each tune with true lyrical conviction, and passion which blends beautifully with the songs rhythm.
Marc and Benjamin fill out the songs with guitar playing reminiscent of the olden golden days of heavy metal, but played with a harder edge. The lead guitar riffs are very well placed, and are filled with heavy laden crescendos.
Steve and Robert keep the entire TnL machine well lubricated with fierce drum beats, and tight bass beats.
The album In Charge Of The Scythe gave me musical, lyrical, and soul quenching fulfillment. May you also experience your own version of enlightenment while listening to this album.
Every tune on In Charge Of The Scythe has it's own individual life, but ideally the culmination of songs maintains a theme related to one's life that is filled with many facets like disappointments, mislead truths, downtrodden expectations, broken promises, death, and love.
Unlike another notable band from Berlin, Thunder and Lightning have chosen to write the lyrics in the universal language of English. This will enable the listener to better understand the message, and lyrics of each tune they perform. The well thought out writing skills they possess could lend to a German lyrical based song on a future release that would still bring the headbangers back.
With each drum beat, each guitar riff, and each thought provoking lyric, I am left pondering about the meaning of life, and the importance of living each day to the fullest; being there for the people who I include in my daily life. Get ready for your chance to not just listen to In Charge Of The Scythe, but also to experience it when it drops on August 23rd, 2013!
