As claimed earlier in 2013, The Devil’s Blood has, “returned to nothingness” with their newest debut, Tabula Rasa. From the get go, this band has always had a sinister and groovy feel to their music. This time around, it’s a sample of new material from the beloved guys of The Devil’s Blood.
Although the band’s name came from the well-known Watain song, “Devil’s Blood”, this band couldn’t be any more different in musical style and lyricism. Their style is a mixture and beautiful recipe of Cauldron, Black Sabbath, with a teasing hint of Jex Thoth.
To start off this album, we have the track, “I Was Promised A Hunt”, which begins with multiple melodic hums. It is a splendid beginning, because it gives you a build up until you hear the guitar strumming. To top it off, this song is a lot longer than anticipated, so you can expect an earful from the 7 powerful tracks contained.
Throughout the entire album, it’s like one long story from start to finish, with what sounds like an acid trip as if you were in the movies and books by the amazing Hunter S. Thompson. There are bits of darkness, cocaine highs, occult rock, groovy sex, and absinthe shots in the mix as well. Serious parts are added as well, like an emphasis to a mellow time of each high, ritual, and shot.
The best part? You can really feel the heart and soul of Farida’s vocals with truly Satanic lyrics right out of the Netherlands.
I can assure everyone will enjoy this album, Satanists and non alike.
