Releasing their sixth full length album VI on September 20, 2013 on AFM records are thrash veterans Onslaught. After their 2011 release “Sounds of Violence”, I was wondering, “Could they do any better?” With a new man, Mic Hourihan, behind the drum kit, Onslaught is back, and with a vengeance! Sky Keeler’s vocals are as good as ever, and we have founding member Nige Rockett on guitars, who has always had some of the best guitar playing I have heard. His playing on VI is no different. Though the album starts with a thirty-four second intro, “A New World Order” that will give you a false pretense of what is to come, it brings you into “Chaos Is King”, which right from the start gets your blood pumping! And the album doesn’t let up from there: with tracks like the self-explanatory “66Fucking6” that feature some intense guitar riffs and the “Slaughterize”, which will make the hair on the back of your neck stand up!
“Fuel My Fire” adds some keyboards, but that does not by any means change the tune for me. It is a great mix, and done very nicely! VI from beginning to end is a balls to the wall album, and I say it is one you NEED to have in your collection, and yes I said need! It is nothing short of amazing. Every member puts in their best, and it shows. They all have a key role and that is what makes this one of the best albums that we will hear in 2013! It leaves you wanting more! Onslaught never ceases to amaze me even after all of these years! Go out, and get VI! You will not be disappointed!
