Back in 1999, Motive landed in the metal scene in Phoenix, Arizona. They have released a few cd's, and hit many stages. More recently they have created and released the CD entitled I Am Today in 2013.
“I Am Today” is the first song from the CD of the same name. Strong bass, and drum lines give a solid backbone to the rhythm and lead guitars. The lyrics deal with issues of God, and our relationship with this entity.
The track “She of No Light” is chock full of tight rhythm guitaring, and contains some of the raunchiest vocals anywhere. I would love to see this one performed live!
“Color Blind Rain” is very groove oriented, and funky. It kicks your ass out of the chair, and gets you moving. Vocals and lyrics are emotional, and passionate about racial views in society.
Next in line, “Bastard I Am” has move groove for all you southern sun fried metalheads.
“Lost on 89” starts off with a speedier, thrashy tempo. This tune definitely has some punk elements, but ends off with a groove beat. A badass combo.
Lastly, “Burnt Flavor” is a definite thrash song. Love the clean ending on this one.
I would like to point out the brilliant recording and production quality of I Am Today. All notes, instruments, and vocals are evenly proportioned so that not one aspect is more prominent than the others.
One can clearly hear the southern U.S.'s metal influence; a dominent groove beat while maintaining some thrash elements too.
I found the entire CD flows like a mountain stream without any forces to disrupt it's ebb and way. When the final song played, I was left wondering when the next song would start, and realized I had reached the end of the disc.
Damed shame really, I wanted to hear more! Solution: play the disc again!
I urge you to sample the album, then purchase it here.
