Heresiae first began in 2009 as a solo project by Francesco Petucco. Now a four member band, Heresiae signed with Invincible Records and their first release, a 5 song EP, titled “Heresiae”, was released via DEFOX Records/Heart of Steel Records December 2011.
A short 21 second instrumental intro leads immediately to the second track, It’s Only Human Frailty which opens at breakneck speed and never lets up. Throughout this track and the three remaining tracks I was impressed with Heresiae’s ability to remain true to Black Metal with the classic staccato drum blasts, the ever-changing rhythm of the guitar riffs, but also the additions of some extra sounds that add thrills, such as the sound like lasers from a space battle video game, the addition of the unique guitar sounds that remind me of charging and trumpeting elephants, and on Life Mulders Away, did I hear at the beginning the bell sounds of an old fashioned cash register…..like ka-ching?!
This production is tight and the pace is fast and furious. And I started to get the feeling I was trapped inside a horror video game. That’s cool.
This EP release is just the precursor to more inspired technical Death Metal music from Heresiae who say this is just the beginning and a full-length CD release will be on its way.
