I admit I love opening up envelopes that contain music from bands! When I got the cd, Dark and Cold from the band Garagedays, I immediately threw it into my Sony system and cranked the Bose speakers! I am not as familiar with Austrian bands, but I do think that this band has piqued my interest in exploring the region further.
I will comment on the songs that impacted me the most on this cd.
“Last Breath” turns out to be the first song the disc. It opens up with a unifed beat from all in the band, and it stays aggressive with massive power chords, and hits hard with driven guitar riffs. Edgy, rough vocals add lots of flavour to this tune!
“Blow Away” gives us fast, aggressive tempo, with harsh, hateful lyrics. I would say this thrash oriented tune would kick ass live!
“I'm Your Hate” will be one of your favorite tunes on this album; its definitely one of mine. This tune pulls me in from the first note, and progresses with fired up metal lyrics while the rhythm changes keep the song moving, with the gallop of the drums and bass to keep the head banging.
“Piece of Shit” jumps right into blistering guitar riffs which sets the pace for the tune. At points throughout the song, the blast beats are akin to that of Metallica; particularly the song “One”, which works for me. I love the tone the lyrics pave for this song. This one has got to be a show fave!
“Dark And Cold” is the closer tune with a sinister, and melodic death feel about it which adds brutality to the tune. Marco Kerns does not hold back. He wants us to feel his breath, and bits of spittle from his screaming lyrics which drive us further into the dark and cold of the world.
Looks like the country of Austria has metal to offer to the heads of the globe. Don't be timid, give Garagedays a listen today!
