And oh what glorious memories... This year’s fest was held from April 6-8, 2017 at the Nite Owl in Calgary, Alberta. Eighteen independent bands from across western Canada, some relative newcomers, others established veterans of the scene hit the stage and proved yet again why western Canadian metal is a force to be reckoned with. World, take notice! The bands that rocked Metalfest 2017 represented a broad cross section of sub-genres, not all of them extreme. Death and thrash were prominent on the agenda, but prog, folk and more mainstream, gothic, and classic metal acts also got their chance to shine.
