Primalfrost Karkaos Tsargrad Saturday July 26, 2014 The Bovine Sex Club Toronto, ON, Canada Presented by: Maple Metal Records Be sure to watch our interview with the lovely ladies of metal: Ekaterina, and Veronica. Click here to access the interview. |
It was smooth sailing on the D.V.P. motorway to downtown Toronto last night. We were trekking to the inner depths of the Bovine Sex Club for a metal filled night full of beer, metal shirts, metalheads of all shapes and sizes, and Canadian talent! This show was set up for Protokult's new CD, No Beer in Heaven, due to be released August 8th.
To start our evening, Navneet Johal (our much acclaimed photographer) and I had the pleasure of interviewing and chatting with Ekaterina Pyatkova of the band Protokult, and Veronica Rodriguez of the band Karkaos. Let me tell you, these fine ladies love their bands and their fans! Be sure to watch the interview in the very near future. Southern Ontario's Tsargrad were first on the bill. At first when you see them, you immediately think celtic clansmen because of the band’s attire and make up. Black smudges on their faces to resemble crosses, with boots and pelts to finish the look. I expected a more viking sound but I was charmed by the old school metal tones instead. Already having met Veronica, I was keen to hear Karkaos live. The crowd had thickened by then and the band was met with fist pumps and cheers! During the set, the band had some technical issues but kept the crowd pumped by encouragement from Veronica asking the audience to clap and raise our beers! From the look of the hair windmills at the front of the stage (including Jimi and Cory of Crimson Shadows), Karkaos has an established fanbase here already! |
I have seen Dean Paul Arnold perform with his band Primalfrost on a couple of occasions. To say this band has a huge following is an understatement. The mosh pit had started, with one fan crowd surfing, and shouts of “PRIMALFROST” was heard between songs. Their set delighted many metalheads in the crowd and stepped up the intensity of the show. As Protokult was getting ready for their set, the small cave like setting of the Bovine became even more oven like as the heat increased with the amount of bodies in the crowd. Anyone who has seen this band live knows that the beer maidens will be pouring potent potables into ever thirsty mouths at the front of the stage. Before this delightful feature comes to fruition, the fans come in close, sing along, and dance the metal jig during the pagan musical onslaught from the band. We are instantly transported to villages, and forests of another era. This night was filled with a plethora of metal fun, brother and sisterhood, and some of the most outstanding bands that the local scene has to offer. Thanks to Maple Metal Records for putting this show together. We hope all the bands had as much fun as we, and all the fans did. |
