With loud blasting fury, Amoeba steps forth onto the French Death Metal scene. Having formed only recently (2010), they have already carved out quite a name for themselves. Being that they are fairly new there is not much known about Amoeba. They are mostly in their teens and play some of the fastest and most aggressive Death Metal I’ve heard.
Amoeba’s first effort is a three song EP entitled “Day in Black”, which was recorded at FH Studio under the supervision of Simon Muller(X-Vision). As for the production aspect Amoeba and Simon have done a great job A nice clean sound, filled with plenty of intricate stops and riff progressions comes out this effort.
Out the gate, the tune “Martyrdom”, sets the tone. Speed riffing guitars, blasting drums, and ultra-guttural vocals really got my attention in the first 10 seconds of this song. Just so you know this is what the intention of any artist should be, get their attention fast then get the listener to stay focused on the music. Marius , Louis , and Simon do a great job creating some incredible stops, fast breaks, and keeping it all relevant to the songs original purpose. I like the way the structure of the song flowed fast and punishing in the beginning, then eventually slowing to a slower groove followed by some nice filler leads. Lucas follows in with some deep guttural vocals which is very reminiscent of old school death metal. High pitch screams accent the vocals at points with good vocals overall. Lacking is the pronunciation from the vocals which I particularly like, but it is what the song calls for. Overall “Martyrdom” got my blood pumping. I feel Amoeba are their on the right track with this great song.
“Day in Black” can be listened to and downloaded for FREE, on most of your major social networking sites. I give this one 8 out of 10 stars, definitely want to hear more from these guys, I’m sure that I won’t be disappointed.
