American Hell is a Canadian metal band comprised of some members of In These Walls, A Day and a Death Wish and Rad Affair. The band members bring years of shows and touring experience from their past bands and have blended the sounds of punk, hardcore and metal to create their current sound.
I had the pleasure of listening to American Hell and choosing one of their songs to review. Five of their full length demos can be heard at https://www.facebook.com/americanhelltheband. They are Only Human, Zero, For the Failures, No End in Sight and My Time with the Monster. All five songs I listened to were exciting, but I want to focus on one.
I decided to review For the Failures. A short pounding guitar intro, a quick pause, a wall of guitar chords and bass, the guitars abruptly stop and only a rapidly pounding drum for a second, then harsh vocals kick in with grinding guitars, and this is just within the first 35 seconds of the track. There’s lots of changes in instrumentation and vocal style. Pounding, sometimes almost epic sounding guitars, buzz saw rhythm, then slower tempo with clearer vocals going around and around, and also back and forth. The song takes the listener on a roller coaster ride of changing rhythms and auditory delights, and incorporates elements of black and progressive metal.
For the Failures is forceful and exhilarating! The same can be said of the band American Hell.
