| Blog author: Alex Stojanovic It's the day that no Trivium fan saw coming or was hoping would come, but it unfortunately has. After 9 years, the band has announced that they had parted ways with drummer Alex Bent, who has been a part of some of the band's most acclaimed records since the 2000s. For us longtime fans, we know that Trivium have had numerous lineup changes with drummers over the years, it kind of became a meme over time. Alex was the band's fourth drummer in the recording history of the band, but fifth drummer overall, following Travis Smith, Nick Augusto, Mat Madiro and Paul Wandtke, and has appeared on The Sin & The Sentence (2017), What The Dead Men Say (2020) and In The Court Of The Dragon (2021), all of which have been praised as some of Trivium's best albums. I will say though that the timing of the depature is awkward, because the band are about to release their new EP Struck Dead on October 31, and head out on a massive North American headline tour, starting on the day the EP drops. |
Alex states: "I am beyond grateful for the incredible past 9 years with Trivium—filled with unforgettable moments, music, and friendships that I’ll always carry with me. I’m so proud of every record and tour we created together, and I know Trivium will continue to dominate the world; they’ll always have my support. While this chapter has come to a close, this is by no means the end of my path as a musician. I’m excited for this new chapter, and I look forward to continuing to create, perform, and share music in new ways. Thank you to everyone who has supported me along the way. Your encouragement means the world."
No reasoning in particular was revealed as to what led to Alex's departure, especially at a time like this with what's coming, but rumours of him being fired were immediately squashed as Matt Heafy has commented on Alex's statment on Instagram wishing him and his family well. It very well could be family reasons. For those that know, Alex and his wife Christina welcomed their second daughter recently, who had some health scares around her birth, so it might have to do more about being there for his family, which is absolutely commendable. I'm sure we'll find out the real reason behind the departure sometime soon.
Alex was Trivium's longest-serving drummer since Travis Smith. Speaking of which, some fans online are quickly now requesting that the band bring Travis back. Honestly, as cool as that would be, that's not happening, for a number of reasons. Anyway, we all wish Alex the best in his future endeavours and all us fans thank him for the great music he made with Matt, Corey and Paolo. He has certainly left behind some massive shoes to fill, so who will be taking his place? We'll just have to wait and see.
