At the same time, what's a reunion without new music? Anticipation for a new album is higher now than it was on Human, and there is a new one coming in 2025, but to hold us all over for the time being and to get us all excited, we have the first taste of new music with both singers on vocals with the new single "Mayday". The first thing that's noticable is that the bass intro with the 4-on-the-floor kick drum is a direct throwback to "Animal I Have Become", and people have been saying that the main riff is reminiscent of "Move Your Body" by My Darkest Days, so you got elements paying homage to both singers' past.
When it comes to separating the two eras, the Matt era songs seemed to have a little more of an electronic element compared to the Adam era songs, but they managed to incorporate hints of both vocal styles in one song, which even if it doesn't resonate fully with certain people, it's the true union of both identities and eras. Matt was known for having a much more gruff screaming voice, so he gets to unleash that in the bridge in particular. Given their tremendous individual vocal abilities, I do wish that they incorporated vocal harmonies between the two of them. I'm sure they will do it on the other new songs, but it would've been a nice little bit of extra ear candy added to the song.
As a whole, while the song isn't anything overly special, it's a very straightforward catchy rock song with two singers of one of Canada's most loved rock bands, and a sign of great things to come, especially since now the iconic original voice is now back in the band. I definitely think many more bands could learn from this reunion and follow suit.
