Musically, Higher Power picks up where The Space Between The Shadows left off with a collection of both hard-rocking, heavy and melodic songs that would appeal to both Creed fans and non-fans alike. Scott's signature crooning vocal soars and grits on heavy rockers like the title track, "Deadman's Trigger", "Black Butterfly", and "Quicksand", showing that he hasn't lost one bit off his voice. Contrasting the rockers are a good number of soulful power ballads like "If These Walls Could Talk", a powerful duet with Dorothy, "You're Not Alone" and "Dancing In The Rain" and closer "Weight Of The World".
I think the only flaw is that ending the album with three power ballads in a row seemed to bleed off some of the momentum that the hard rockers injected. If one more rocker was placed either very last or second last, the flow would've been perfect. If I could also be honest, while Scott's solo efforts are definitely worthy of praise, they obviously aren't going to have the same level of staying power as all the Creed classics. However, he has been more than able to make himself stand tall as his own artist without having to always be remembered as the guy from Creed, although when he tours solo, people mainly go to hear him sing Creed songs, because Alter Bridge don't play one Creed song.
