​Born out the hell storm of Edmonton, AB, black and doom metal festival Black Mourning Light presented by Crown of Viserys and GigFly.ca unleash the most brutal line up to date for the 2017 edition hosted on October 13th and 14th at the Starlite Room. 

This year's infernal ritual features legends from Canada's black metal scene with headliners REVENGE (Edmonton, AB), BLASPHEMY (Vancouver, BC), RITES OF THY DEGRINGOLADE (Edmonton, AB) and ANTICHRIST (Vancouver, BC). Joining the line up from the United States is Montana's blackened death eaters FORTRESS, Los Angeles black / death legends GRAVEHILL and Ohio's nefarious FUNERAL OF GOD. From the surrounding Western Canadian metal scene, the carnage is intensified with Xul, Ares Infernus, Sorguinazia, Scythra, and Goathammer.

"This year we are taking extreme to a new level for Black Mourning Light, and I couldn't be more honoured to have true legends in black metal on the festival. Revenge and Blasphemy are two of the biggest names in black metal, and with them are some of the best bands in the world to create an absolutely killer lineup. Black Mourning Light Metal Festival is the black metal and doom festival founded by Dustin Ekman of Crown of Viserys. Created to fill a void in Edmonton's black and doom scene. After two successful years in 2015 and 2016, Black Mourning Light Festival returns for a 2017 edition. The 2017 onslaught will feature bands from across Canada and USA. Those that attended the 2015 inaugural ritual and the 2016 two day mayhem will not be disappointed by 2017, as they can expect a different while similar experience to those events. 
​Last year's 2016 edition featured a line up of black, death and doom bands from across Canada plus the USA with UADA, Panzerfaust, Erimha, Helleborus, Idolatry, Display of Decay, Vile Insignia, Hive, Wormwitch, Norilsk, Cell, Holocaust Lord, Nachtterror, Dethgod, Ye Goat-Herd Gods and Hunted By Ravens.

​Friday, October 21 will be headlined by Toronto’s Panzerfaust, alongside Montreal’s Erimha, and Edmonton’s Idolatry. Display of Decay (Edmonton), the night’s only death metal band, Calgary's Vile Insignia and Hive will set the tone. Idolatry and Vile Insignia are the only returning bands from Black Mourning Light 2015.
 
Saturday, October 22 will see Portland, Oregon’s UADA headline with support from Manitou Spring, Colorado’s Helleborus and Vancouver’s Wormwitch, Norilsk (Gatineau, QC), Cell (Winnipeg), Holocaust Lord (Victoria), Nachtterror (Regina), Dethgod (Calgary), Ye Goat-Herd Gods (Calgary) and Hunted By Ravens (Red Deer) will bring a mix of black, death, and doom to set that night’s tone.
 
Sunday morning, October 23 will not feature bands performing, but rather bands eating. Sunday will be reserved for The Mourning After, the VIP exclusive breakfast with all the bands.

Those that attended the 2015 inaugural ritual will not be disappointed by 2016, as they can expect a different while similar experience to that event. Due to the proximity of Samhain, costume prizes will still be awarded to those who wish to dress up early and celebrate the season.

Edmonton, AB based Black Mourning Light Metal Festival, a celebration of black, doom, and dark death metal is proud to announce they are searching for bands of the genre along with filmmakers to showcase their work at this year's festival. The Rendezvous where the festival will be held is equipped with televisions to showcase films via DVD.

Bands interested in playing at Black Mourning Light 2016 can apply at the following link below with submissions ending on July 1st,  and 2016 lineup revealed in August HERE.

"We're looking for darker films, and if they are silent even better. The fact that the films would be playing simultaneously as the music is performed limits their volume to zero. Horror, supernatural, fantasy, all the film genres that seem to work best for metal, are welcome. They will be curated and combed over just like the bands that will be playing, and attempts to match the bands and films together will be made, making this a more audio/visual event than Black Mourning Light 2015."
