After playing sold-out shows across the country, a slight change in line-up, and include the addition of 3 exceptionally talented singers and percussionists, Dropbunny returned to the studio in 2011 to create their 18 track epic, “IO”. After $40,000 and 12 months, this album signifies a deeper progression for the band. IO is simultaneously heavier, catchier, more technical and more horrifying in places. It is intentionally structured to take the listener on a coherent and frightening journey through the darker side of the human psyche. Okay that’s what they say. This is what I say; “IO” A trip. I added that last bit.
I’m not about to classify Dropbunny as any one music genre. It’s trippy, for sure! Metal elements are in there, in their music. But there’s a lot more to it. This is a journey into a twisted mind. A twisted collective mind. It reminds me of………. life.
“It all started with teen angst and hallucinogens”. Wait, what? I’m trying to find the band biography on their website. I clicked on WTF. That wasn’t very sensible reads the comment in the lower right corner that I clicked on, again and again with different results.
Damn I so want to see this band perform live! This is the best thing I’ve got to link for those of us not in Australia. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CWPUJau37NQThat’s "Pentagonal Plywood Prison".
This is only a nibble of what they do. Did it sound sort of Grunge to you? It did me, until the instruments of their trade kicked me in the right shin (thank Horus it wasn’t the left) and told me to pay attention.
Thanks, band, for damn near putting me to sleep and then waking me up and thrusting yourselves in my face. Oh, so you’re Metal and tried to draw my attention to this by doing these other things you do? Ha ha! That’s Metal!
Do you like Arabic sounding music? Plummet. By the way, doesn’t your throat get sore singing that way?
"Portrait of a Young Man as a Shithead". I don’t want to say Pink Floydian, but it is. It sounds like someone walking…through some……..stuff…and those multiple voices towards the end? Wow, you guys put a mic in my skull.
"Another Lost Kid", It starts out with static. Static, what moms and pops spew and most kids hear.
Do you enjoy Sludge? Dropbunny has that. Don’t enjoy Sludge? Then listen to the next track. If I wasn’t psychotic before listening to this album, I would be afterwards. But since I’m psychotic already, this was a great listen!
Last track. There’s Nothing Here and It Screams. Okay, it’s time to make a sacrifice. It’s that dark and evil sounding. It sounds like a chant to raise a demon. I feel at home. There are 18 songs on ”IO”. Surely there’s something for everyone and some many things for all.
